By 2050, renewable sources are expected to supply as much as 80 percent of energy demand, according to a prediction from the Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Technologies that are now commercially viable – and future ones – could increase energy generated from offshore wind turbines, tidal energy, and ocean thermal energy. Experts at this panel discuss the scientific needs for offshore energy development and the types of resources to expect at the midpoint of this century.
