Mr. Wheary has a background in science and public policy. He has had a career in Corporate Public Policy and R&D for twenty five years at one of the nation‘s largest producers and transporters of energy, Dominion Resources (NYSE: D). This involved analysis and input on major energy and environmental issues at the state and federal levels. Prior to that he designed and managed programs that promoted energy efficiency, renewables and coal for the Virginia State Energy Office. At Dominion, he coordinated the company’s support of carbon sequestration research conducted by the Virginia Center for Coal & Energy Research as part of the Southeast Carbon Sequestration Partnership (SECARB). He was appointed to the Southeast Low-level Radioactive Waste Commission by the Governor of Virginia and currently serves as Secretary-Treasurer of that interstate compact. In 2011 he received a major award from the Southern States Energy Board in recognition for service in furthering the objectives of that multi-state organization. Mr. Wheary received his Masters from Virginia Tech and is the author of numerous articles and publications. The most recent being: “Defying the Odds – Virginia Brings a New Coal Plant Online” which appeared in Public Utilities Fortnightly and covers the successful development of the Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center.
