As Communications Manager for the U.S. partners in the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP), Matthew works to interpret and communicate the program’s scientific accomplishments to nonscientist audiences. This includes writing press releases, editing and producing the print newsletter Core Discoveries, arranging tours of the JOIDES Resolution research vessel, engaging via social media, and supporting and advising program scientists in their communication efforts. Matthew is a graduate of the Science Writing program at UC Santa Cruz, and in the past decade has worked at Stanford University, The Carnegie Institution for Science, and the Communication Partnership for Science and the Sea (COMPASS). In that time, he has learned and written about a large variety of topics, including astronomy, particle physics, global climate change, fisheries science, marine ecology, and geohazards.
