Policy Perspectives: The Future of Science in the U.S. Congress

17 June 2014 8:30 am - 10:00 am

Location: 151A-B

Session Description:

UWith calls to cut federal spending and sequestration slashing science budgets, members of Congress have had to make difficult choices in prioritizing which programs or agencies receive adequate funding. That, coupled with a recent undercurrent of anti-science rhetoric and legislative gridlock, has raised the question of whether the United States is on the verge of losing its place as a world leader in science and innovation. This opening plenary will host members of Congress and provide an insight on their experiences in championing these issues and their thoughts on the future of science in the halls of Congress.
